About the job Vet Surgeon required for two well established branches, Haslingden and Bacup, in picturesque East Lancashire. Candidate must be happy sole consulting but all surgery will be done at the main Hospital. We would consider full or part time hours. Full time hours are 40 hours over a four or five day week dependent on which OOH rota you join. OOH either first call 1 in 12 nights, 1 in 4 Saturdays and 1 in 12 Sundays. If you work a week night you are given rest time the week before and after. For all weekend days worked you are given rest days for these. Or as part of the second call rota providing support to the first call vets: 1 in 4 Friday night/ Saturday morning, 1 in 8 full weekends (Saturday/Sunday). There is one night every 2 weeks. Well-equipped practices with CT scanner, ultrasound, digital X-rays, gastro/endoscope and full lab facilities. CPD allowance of £1500, to be taken over 5 days; we actively encourage post graduate study. 6.6 weeks holiday, 1 day birthday leave and private medical insurance is available. About the job Our client has an exciting position available in a friendly practice in the North West. They are a chain of 17 branches with an RCVS accredited hospital offering out of hours' care. Within the team there is 12 RVN'S, with SVN and ANA support. The practice is well equipped with endoscopy and CT scanner etc. They also have an onsite rehabilitation and hydrotherapy unit. The role involves approximately 37 hours per week with a maximum of four consecutive nights once a month on the night rota. A night shift will consist of, 8 pm till 8 am with potential to sleep 12 pm till 6 am due to work load, support on nights will be provided with an ANA, Veterinary Surgeon on site and additional senior vet on call. Generous time off will be given for the night shifts equating to 17.6 weeks off a year including holiday allowance. Our client is a private Veterinary practice easily able to compete against the corporate machines. The role will include some sole charge work. The nursing staff are all RVNs and the employer is keen to see them working as professionals, alongside the assistance they give to the Veterinary Surgeon team. Membership of BUPA, subscriptions for the Veterinary Defence Society, The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and one other Veterinary related professional body will be paid by the company. There is also an allowance for Continuing Professional Development (CPD). 2, 3 or 4 day working week, Monday to Friday. With days off during the week in lieu of any Saturdays or Sundays worked. One late night surgery (consults to 8 pm) and the remaining finishes will be between 4 pm and 7pm, with possible free time during the day. Weekends are on a seven-week rota basis with three weekends off. Work-Life balance is important and the Vet's rota reflects that. Consultations are by appointment only, usually 10 minutes but 15 minutes for annual health examinations/ boosters. Longer consultations can also be arranged as appropriate. Holiday allowance is 22 weekdays per calendar year. A Monday to Sunday holiday counts as five days' holiday. The holiday allowance for the remainder of this year will be calculated pro rata. Any weekends within a holiday are counted as weekends off within the weekend rota. Duties for Bank Holidays are worked in rotation by agreement and a day off during the week will be granted. Over the Christmas and New Year period it may not be possible to give a compensatory day off for working one of the Bank Holidays during that week. If not, the extra day in lieu will be given the following week. An extra day holiday is granted for every 5 years of continued service. There are no out of hours. It is company policy to have regular individual meetings between line managers and all staff to discuss CPD, progress of the individual and the company, and any development opportunities or positive suggestions that may arise. CPD is actively encouraged and tailored individually (often a mixture of online, at home and off-site learning). The client would look to support someone who wants to focus on gaining additional certification in a discipline. Review meetings are after the 1st week, the 1st month then every 3 to 4 months (or as required). There are usually two Veterinary Surgeons working at any time. The surgery have the most up to date laboratory equipment, its own theatre, US scanners and digital radiography facilities. The practice have multiple personalities in the practice who together form a happy and professional crew. The right candidate should be able to develop good interpersonal relations with both the staff and valued clients - a diverse range of people. The client is looking for someone generating enthusiasm by example, whilst being happy and efficient. Salary negotiable, commensurate with experience and competence. Usually review after 6 months based on business performance and productivity. General all round medical competence is essential and surgically would expect you to be able to do all routine neutering, Caesar and simple soft tissue surgery.
